Vanguard Volunteers are all smiles after a day of helping at William Way
“Out with the Old and in with the new” was the mantra last week as a dozen volunteers from Vanguard helped clean out the William Way Center. The Community Engagement Workstream for the OPEN (Out Professional Engagement Network) Resource Group focuses on LGBTQ+ inclusion within Vanguard as well as in the community. Vanguard has volunteered with The William Way center multiple times over the years and once again they came through arriving at the center with smiles on their faces and their sleeves rolled up ready to get to work.
We’re eager to begin construction on our Build the Way project, but before we can bring in the new, we have to make room and clear out some of the old. Vanguard volunteers threw away old furniture, fixtures, and items that we will not be needing in the next step of the Center’s journey. Clearing out those old materials frees up room that we’ll need for our improved center which will have seating that is more accessible and comfortable.
According to Psychology Today, Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to the community, build friendships and learn new skills. Every little bit helps– from moving furniture to attending events, or just showing support by spreading the word. We here at William Way are so grateful to all our friends, devotees, and benefactors for all your amazing support.
Vanguard knows all work and no play makes life a bit boring. So members from Vanguard are also hosting the Build Me Up Buttercup Prom and Fundraiser this Saturday, March 25th welcoming all members of the community. It’s going to be a memorable night full of music, dancing, and light refreshments. There’s even going to be a live and silent auction with a chance to win a 5-night trip to Morocco! All the proceeds will be going towards the building of our new expansive and welcoming Center. Everyone is invited so make sure to buy a ticket, grab your dancing shoes and join us at the William Way Community center!
